Seattle Area Fights Sprawl With 100-Mile Diet

AUGUST 9, 2007 - Here's a report from Nina in Washington state: Just read about this site and families in the Seattle area who are trying to do this. I'm so excited. I've been thinking about it and how we can try to keep our local produce and dairy farmers in business. We have lost a beautiful local growers' area in Seattle's Duwamish Valley that used to be a patchwork quilt of truck gardens and now is in concrete, industrial and housing! We are trying to hang on to the Skagit Valley about one hour north but people want to subdivide and build houses. This movement would help. It makes us more crisis-resistant and worthy! This is a much needed website and I'll be sharing it with many folks. Maybe we can do a Seattle-area page like your Vancouver, BC, link.
