What happens when the poorest people in our communities can only afford to eat the cheapest foods?  The sad truth is, the cheapest foods are typically also the worst for you, and contribute to many of the poorest people being left with very poor nutrition.  How many people living below the poverty line have access to fresh, healthy, raw produce or have any familiarity with what a nutritious diet looks like?  These are issues NOWBC Co-op members are concerned about and are doing something to help.

NOWBC is a relatively new organization that has started a small on-line farmers market full of tasty, healthy, local organic goodness (www.nowbc.ca).  Customers of the on-line farmers market are predominantly health conscious “foodies” interested in sustainability and the local food cause.  Over the last 8 months, this small co-op is proud to have raised over $1600 to supply organic food to the CityReach Care Society's Food For Families food bank program (www.cityreach.org).  With each order placed in the on-line farmers market, customers are able to add a few dollars to their shopping cart to contribute to the food bank program.  They know this donation will go towards purchasing healthy, organic, local food for people in need.  “I like that the Food For Families program provides wholesome and nutritious foods to those families using their food bank. It is great that the families also have the opportunity to learn about how to prepare healthy meals from the foods offered by the program." says Dean Simmons, xanax prescription, Viagra discount, NOWBC member and volunteer.
