Newsletter #2 — Local-Eating’s Unlikely Capital
Dear 100-Milers,
The lazy days of summer haven't been so lazy here at 100-Mile Diet headquarters. If you haven't been to the website lately, stop in soon. We just posted a new article about a place we're calling the local-eating capital of North America: Powell River, British Columbia.
More than 250 bold souls there have signed up for -- wait for it -- A 50-MILE DIET! It's inspiring stuff. Why not take a moment to read about their adventures?

Thanks to efforts like these, more and more people are taking note of the movement. US media interest is surging, we recently interviewed with the BBC World Service, and we've even heard from a few Aussies about applying the diet Down Under. Check out the stories flooding in from 100 milers around the world:

Now for two upcoming highlights. First, we're putting final touches on our fall campaign. We promised in our last newsletter to unveil it soon -- watch for it around harvest time. Keep an eye out, too, for news about our book. "The 100-Mile Diet: A Year of Local Eating" will be published in the Spring of 2007 by Harmony Books (a division of Random House) in the US and by Random House Canada north of the 49th parallel. We'll let you know when you can get your hands on it.
Meanwhile, keep eating locally -- and sharing your stories.
-- Bon appetit,
Alisa Smith and James MacKinnon
