Mailbag: Peppers Can Save the Planet

My family (five in total) grow our own tomatoes, peppers (red, yellow, orange, green, jalapeno and purple), potatoes, carrots and beans. It is a great way to make sure you are not adding to global warming by having your food delivered to your table via fossil fuels. It provides much needed relaxation and teaches my children responsibility for their own food. Growing my own garden also gives me the peace of mind that unwanted chemicals are not being ingested by my family. It has been a couple of years since we started this and the garden grows in size every year to accommodate what we need.
It took a lot of work but now I have a process down to have homemade spaghetti sauce until mid-March. The peppers are diced and frozen and along with the beans, they last until the new crop is ready. It makes me feel like I am doing my part to preserve the planet for my grandchildren and their children.
