Intrigued by the 100-Mile Diet in Virginia
By Anne Darbe
VIRGINIA - After living in an apartment close to the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, USA, I ended up house sitting on a semi-wild farm in southwest Virginia. On Thanksgiving I ended up eating a number of things that came from outside 100 miles, but a lot of the food came from within 1 mile or less. That included venison, wild blackberry jam, bell peppers, pumpkin pancakes, and tomatoes. There are also wild turkey, pheasant, quail, and other fowl here in addition to pasture-fed cattle. Your idea of 100-Mile Diet has me intrigued... Hmm, chicory (coffee substitute) grows all over this county. There are vineyards and wineries within a few miles and orchards ad infinitum.
Yep, I think i could survive on 100 mile food -- though sugar might pose a problem.
